Some Facts to Keep in Mind About Our Blood Supply:
People with O-negative blood are known as “universal donors” because their blood can be transfused to anyone. Type O-negative blood is found in just six percent of the population, and is often transfused to patients with other blood types in emergency rooms and trauma situations.
People of all blood types and ethnicities are encouraged to donate, and are critical to maintaining the diversity of Greater New York’s bloodsupply.
Car accident and trauma victims may need 50 or more bloodtransfusions.
Police officers can be injured in the line of duty. First responders also face great danger during emergencies.
People can donate one pint of whole blood every 56 days and platelets every three days.
THANK YOU FOR CARING!
Why we do this:
Hurricane Harvey is wreaking havoc in Southern Texas and as good citizens, we will be sending blood and platelets to hospitals in the effected region. Our friends in Houston at GulfCoast Blood Center have not yet been able to access the damage to their facility, trucks and bloodmobiles and at this point they do not believe they will be able to run any blood drives through the end of the week. Please help us help them by exceeding the target on your upcoming blood drive. Please spread the word via any and every method possible. We were helped during Superstorm Sandy and now is our turn to give back.
We need your help! Your donation will help to save up to THREE lives. Our community hospitals need your help. Please share this lifesaving gift! Thank You for Caring!
